    About me

    Dr. Traves Crabtree is a Professor and Chair of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery as well as the Medical Director of the Surgical Skills Laboratory at the Memorial Learning Center. Dr. Crabtree graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1991. He received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1995. He interned in General Surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he also completed his residency and a fellowship in Surgical Infectious Disease Research. He also completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis, MO (2004), and worked there until returning to SIU School of Medicine in 2016 to become a Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and to head the Surgical Skills Lab at the MLC. Dr. Crabtree is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgeons (ABTS). He is a member in good standing of numerous thoracic and cardiothoracic surgical societies and organizations and is on the editorial board of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
