Overview

The esophagus is the tube that connects the back of the throat to the stomach. Symptoms of this type of cancer include trouble swallowing, unintentional weight loss, chest pain, worsening indigestion or heartburn, and coughing or hoarseness. Treatment focuses on removing the cancer through surgery. Chemotherapy and radiation also may be used.
