The Institute for Plastic Surgery at SIU Medicine is teaming up with area businesses to educate women about their breast reconstruction options. Danenberger Family Vineyards will host “Angels Among Us,” a fashion show featuring local cancer survivors, with the help of AnaOno, an international intimates clothing line for women who have or are undergoing breast cancer treatment, and Eye Candy, a boutique, salon and spa located in Springfield. Simmons Cancer Institute to host ‘financial toxicity’ presentation on Thursday, Sept. 12

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Nausea, hair loss, fatigue, appetite loss, pain. This list of common cancer treatment side effects doesn’t include “financial toxicity,” but maybe it should, according to organizations like American Cancer Society, AARP and The American Journal of Medicine. Financial toxicity, or the cost of cancer treatment, is often a major burden to cancer survivors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cancer care in the U.S. cost $157 billion in 2010. By 2020, the figure is estimated to reach more than $174 billion. CARBONDALE, IL - SIU Medicine is welcoming patients, residents and students to a new state-of-the-art clinic and teaching facility at 300 W. Oak Street. The 40,000-square-foot space will be the home to SIU Center for FamilyMedicine–Carbondale and SIU Medicine’s Physician Assistant Program. Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) funded the new facility and is leasing the building to SIU Medicine. The construction plan was developed as SIU’s family medicine clinic began to outgrow its space in the professional office building connected to SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Walk-in acupuncture appointments available at SIU Center for Family Medicine

Have you ever wanted to try acupuncture? SIU Center for Family Medicine, 520 N. 4th St. in Springfield, is now offering an auricular (ear) acupuncture clinic as of August 2019 on Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. Appointments take 15-20 min and are only $5. SPRINGFIELD, IL – Children entering pre-k, kindergarten, 6 th or 9 th grade, or who are new to Springfield Public School District 186, are required to have school physicals and immunizations. Meningococcal vaccines are also required for all students entering 12 th grade. Parents are encouraged to schedule appointments with their children’s primary care doctor or physician.
