    Overview

Substance use disorders are chronic diseases, like diabetes or high blood pressure.

A person with substance use disorder can regain a healthy and productive life with treatment. At the SIU Medicine Support Team for Addiction Recovery Treatment (START) clinic, we offer medications, therapy, and peer support services to help patients with addictions move forward in their recovery.

We believe this approach is best because:

    Medications:

    • Decrease cravings and withdrawals symptoms
    • Decrease relapse rates
    • Decrease pregnancy complications
    • Decrease overdose related deaths

    Therapy:

    • Improves coping mechanisms for cravings
    • Improves understanding of triggers
    • Improves understanding of underlying issues that contribute to addiction

    Peer:

    • Increases treatment retention
    • Increases patient satisfaction
    • Improves social support system
    • Improves relationships with treatment providers

SIU Medicine would like to be a part of your recovery. To learn more, visit the START page.
