Obstetrics and Gynecology | Gynecologic Oncology

The Gynecologic Oncology division, directed by Professor Laurent Brard MD, PhD, provides expert, specialized care for women throughout Central and Southern Illinois for treatment of all types of gynecologic cancers. Dr. Brard is a board-certified Gynecologic Oncologist who provides care to more than 1200 women per year from the region. This care is managed using a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach and the most advanced surgical techniques and adjuvant treatments. The division actively participates in clinical, translational and discovery research and in educating medical students, residents and hematology oncology fellows by offering exposure to common and rare gynecological malignancies and their management and providing didactics and research forums. Annually, the division performs over 250 surgical procedures enabling medical students and residents extensive experience for superior training purposes.

Services

• Evaluation and treatment of benign or malignant tumors of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, vulva and vagina
• Evaluation and treatment of abdominal and/or pelvic masses
• Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)
• Minimally invasive surgery, including robotic assisted surgery (utilizing da Vinci® Surgical Systems)
• Consultative services for SIU School of Medicine faculty and private practice physicians in Central/Southern Illinois
• Onco-fertility in partnership with the division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility
• Genetic counseling for patients with gynecologic cancers
• Consultations with Onco-psychologists
• Participation in clinical trials (through NRG Oncology and SIU School of Medicine)
