Overview

Hemorrhoids are swollen and/or inflamed veins in the anus or rectum. They are frequently the result of strain during bowel movements. They are also common during pregnancy.

Treatment options

Treatment options include dietary changes, as well as over-the-counter medications, such as stool softeners. In some cases, a medical procedure to remove the hemorrhoid may be needed to provide relief.
