Brandt Whitehurst, MD
About me
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine alumnus Brandt Whitehurst, MD, MS, ’10, joined the faculty of his alma mater as an assistant professor of clinical surgery in August 2016. The Springfield native is also a member of SIU Medicine, the School’s group practice. Whitehurst graduated from Glenwood High School in Chatham in 1999.
Before joining SIU, Whitehurst completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine (2016) and a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita (2015). Before earning his medical degree at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield (2010), he received a master’s of science degree in molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale (2006). Whitehurst earned a bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University (2003).
Board certified by the American Board of Surgery, he is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
