Rheumatology

Rheumatology is the study of rheumatism, arthritis, and other disorders of the joints, muscles, and ligaments.

The SIU Medicine Rheumatology Clinic is staffed by board-certified rheumatologists who are faculty members of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. In addition, internal medicine residents in rheumatology work in the clinic under the supervision of faculty. Internal medicine residents are physicians who have completed four years of medical school training and are now receiving three years of training to become internists. They provide care for patients in rheumatology during their trainings in our division. It is our mission to provide excellent clinical care, and best treatment approaches for rheumatologic diseases.

We care for patients with a variety of rheumatic diseases, including

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Psoriatic arthritis
  • Gout
  • Scleroderma
  • Myositis
  • Sjogren's syndrome
  • Vasculitis
