Obstetrics and Gynecology | Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Maternal-Fetal Medicine is a branch of medicine that treats women with high-risk pregnancies. At SIU Medicine, our specialists provide clinical care for women and their babies throughout the region. We also help advance our field through research and medical education.
Expertise
SIU Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, directed by Robert Abrams, MD, provides specialized care for women in central Illinois with high-risk pregnancies. These include complications such as maternal diabetes, preeclampsia, preterm labor, multifetal gestations, fetal abnormalities, previous miscarriages, multiple babies and other less common obstetrical complications.
Our providers also staff the South-Central Illinois Perinatal Center located at HSHS St. John’s Hospital to ensure continuity of high-risk care both during pregnancy and postpartum. Using an integrated approach, the center offers advanced prenatal screening, genetic testing and diagnostic tools to support mothers and their babies.
Our multidisciplinary team provides the highest quality care for women from central and southern Illinois facing complicated or high-risk pregnancies. Our patients are referred by a general practice OB-GYN. To request a consultation, please talk to your OB and ask for a referral to SIU Medicine's Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. We also work closely with the South-Central Illinois Perinatal Center at HSHS St. John's Children's Hospital.
