Team up, tee up to help area children on June 3
Children throughout Springfield and surrounding communities are receiving extended medical care, and once they return home, their families often need extra help to pay for items or services that insurance does not cover. SIU Medicine is inviting golfers to team up and join us at the On Par for Pediatrics charity golf outing on June 3. Your support can help these children who are facing life-altering diseases.
A shotgun start will begin the round at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3, at The Rail Golf Course, 1400 S. Club House Dr., Springfield. An entry fee of $125 per player includes green fees, golf cart, on-course beverages, games and prizes, and a Twyford BBQ dinner. Guests who are not golfing can attend dinner for $50. Sponsorships at various levels of support, including golf carts dedicated in honor or memory of a family member or friend, also are available.
Registration is due May 24 and can be completed online or emailed to foundation@siumed.edu. Checks payable to the SIU Foundation for the outing and sponsorships may also be sent to the SIU Foundation, P.O. Box 19666, Springfield, IL 62794-9666, or call 217-545-2955 weekdays for information.
The Department of Pediatrics at SIU Medicine has played an integral role in caring for children in Springfield and surrounding communities since the school’s inception in 1970. The mission of On Par for Pediatrics is to ease the financial burden for families whose children are receiving extended medical care. Proceeds will also continue to support children who are battling cancer and blood disorders.
“We want to be sure that our patients and their families have the best environment to stay healthy when they’re with us and when they return home,” said Doug Carlson, MD, chair of the Department of Pediatrics at SIU Medicine. “The funds we raise from the golf outing can help with those unexpected needs such as a glucometer machine, insulin pump and insulin for families without immediate insurance coverage.” Some of the other items paid for through this fund include cribs, car seats, formula, dietary services, telehealth services for those who are too ill to leave home, overnight lodging for families and transportation costs.
