SIU Family Physician Recognized for Service to Community
Tom Miller, MD, chairman and residency program director of SIU Quincy Family Medicine, has received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP). The award is given to a family medicine physician who combines family medicine education and service to the community. Miller will receive the award at the IAFP Annual Awards Banquet on Friday, October 9.
Miller, an associate professor family and community medicine, joined the School of Medicine in 1994. He completed a family medicine residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill. (1992). Miller earned his medical degree at Rush University in Chicago (1989) after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Marquette University in Milwaukee (1985).
He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Miller is a member of several organizations, including the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, Adams County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Physicians and Illinois Academy of Family Physicians. He is also an active volunteer and is a member of the following organizations: Adams County Board of Health; United Way Adams County; Family Planning, Inc.; American Heart Association; Lewis County Home Health Advisory Committee; Adams County Child Advocacy ; Regional Perinatal Care Council, Blessing Hospital Board and the Quincy Chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Miller completed a professional development fellowship at the National Institute for Program Director Development in 2002. In 2008, he received the Program Director Recognition Award from the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors.
Miller and his wife, Mary, live in Quincy. The couple has two children, Katie and Lizzy.
