Overview

Sprains and strains are two common types of soft tissue injury. A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments, the tissue that connects two bones together in your joints. The most common location for a sprain is in your ankle.

Common symptoms

Symptoms of sprains and strains are pain, swelling, and bruising. Contact a physician if symptoms include numbness or an inability to move the affected area.
