Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)
Overview

Common symptoms
Symptoms may include leg pain, particularly when walking. Smoking may enhance the risk of this disease.

Treatment options
Medical treatment is always required. Lifestyle changes, including exercise, and a healthy diet are often successful treatments. If those changes do not improve the condition, surgery may be required. Your primary care provider may refer you to a vascular surgeon to explore options for procedural treatment including minimally invasive procedures or surgery.
