Overview

The prostate is a gland that surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine leaves the body. Often called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlarged prostate means the gland has grown larger. Nearly all men will experience an enlarged prostate as they grow older.

Common symptoms

Men who have an enlarged prostate, or BPH, may experience:

  • Dribbling at the end of urination
  • Inability to urinate
  • Incomplete urination
  • Inability to control your bladder, or bladder leakage
  • Need to urinate 2 or more times per night
  • Pain with urination
  • Strong and sudden urges to urinate
  • Weak urine stream

Water vapor therapy

Rezūm Water Vapor Therapy is a natural alternative to surgery. With just a few drops of water, your urologist can shrink the prostate, allowing urine to flow freely again. This quick, in-office procedure does not require general anesthesia or any incisions, and most patients can return to regular activity within a few days. Water vapor therapy also preserves sexual function.

During each 9-second treatment, your provider will release sterile water vapor throughout the targeted prostate tissue. Over time, your body will absorb the treated tissue, shrinking the prostate and reducing symptoms of BPH, often as soon as two weeks.
