    About me

    Dr. Michael Karasis is an assistant professor of urology based at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois. He has been with SIU Medicine for over three years since coming from a private practice in Northern Illinois. He practices general urology with specific interests in stone disease, prostate difficulties, urinary incontinence, testicular diseases, as well as other urological conditions for adult men and women.

    Dr. Karasis attended Loyola University Medical School and attended the SIU Residency Training Program in Urology, after which he operated a solo practice in Woodstock, Illinois. Living in Decatur, his practice is centered at St. Mary’s Hospital, but he is also on staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He has made available to St. Mary’s lithotripsy treatment of urinary stones which is a noninvasive method of treating urinary stones as an outpatient.

    Dr. Karasis works with a dedicated staff of caring professionals who are easily reached with any patient concerns. He performs missionary work as a urologist in the underdeveloped country of Papua New Guinea on a short-term assignment yearly as well as teaching general doctors there about the treatment of various urological problems and lecturing throughout the country. His other interests include music as he is a violinist in a Northern Illinois orchestra as well as a composer of music with ongoing performances of his compositions in Chicagoland.
