Justin Parker, MD

Justin Parker, MD is an associate director of the Decatur Family and Community Residency Program and an assistant professor of medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Dr. Parker joined SIU Medicine in 2013 and has served as a faculty member in Decatur throughout his tenure here. Dr. Parker currently serves as the chair of the Didactics Committee, Educational Resources Committee, Recruiting Committee and Research and Scholarly Activity Committee. Dr. Parker earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (2010) in Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Parker completed his family medicine residency at the SIU Decatur Family & Community Medicine Residency Program in 2013. Dr. Parker received the degree of fellow from the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2017.

Dr. Parker has presented on clinical education models and clinical simulation models at national conferences such as: American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Dr. Parker has also presented on outpatient antibiotic stewardship programs at the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. In collaboration with the Illinois Department of Public Health, Dr. Parker helped to create the Downstate Illinois Partnership against Antibiotic Resistance. He also helped obtain grant funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health for the state of Illinois’ “Precious Drugs and Scary Bugs Campaign.” Currently, Dr. Parker serves as an author and peer-review editor for the Family Physicians Inquiry Network. In addition, Dr. Parker has interests in preventive medicine and behavioral science.
