    About me

    Dr. Brandt Whitehurst is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at SIU Medicine and the Chair of General Surgery for Springfield Memorial Hospital. Before joining SIU, Dr. Whitehurst completed a surgical critical care fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine (2016) and a general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita (2015). Before earning his medical degree at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield (2010), he received a master of science degree in molecular biology, microbiology and biochemistry at SIU School of Medicine in Carbondale (2006). Whitehurst earned a bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University (2003). Whitehurst graduated from Glenwood High School in Chatham in 1999.

    Dr. Whitehurst is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
