Abigail M. Cochran, M.D. is an assistant professor in the Institute for Plastic Surgery.  Dr. Cochran hails from Milwaukee, WI.  She has a BS in Biology, which she received from Siena College in upstate New York where she played Division I volleyball on a full athletic scholarship.  Dr. Cochran returned to Milwaukee to complete her medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin.  She completed her Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency training at Southern Illinois University – School of Medicine.  Dr. Cochran went on to complete a fellowship in Microsurgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin.   


She is a candidate member of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and the Plastic Surgery Research Foundation.  She has received over $120,000 in grants and served as principal investigator on two research projects related to breast cancer and breast reconstruction.  Dr. Cochran has an interest in teaching and has received multiple awards through her medical education and residency including the Marvin Wagner Teaching Award (Medical College of Wisconsin) and Best Resident Teacher in the Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University.  


Dr. Cochran sees patients in Decatur, Illinois full-time with both cosmetic and reconstructive surgical needs. She has a particular interest and experience in breast reconstruction.  Her specialty skills include: microsurgical reconstruction of the breast, head and neck and lower extremity in cancer and/or trauma patients.
